Certification is a mark of excellence. It demonstrates that the certified individual has the knowledge to ensure the quality of products and services. Certification is an investment in your career and in the future of your employer. Recertification takes up to 90 days to process from the date the file is deemed complete; therefore, it is recommended that applicants begin the process at least 90 days prior to their certification expiration date. Failure to recertify in a timely manner could result in your status becoming expired and loss of business opportunities.
Recertification Reminder Mail
A recertification reminder email is emailed to the certificant 90days before their certification expiration date. The email includes link to the recertification application web page and, recertification continuing competence learning module. If you do not receive the recertification email at least 75days before your certification expiration date, please contact the IIHR administrative office.
When To Apply
All CHRG & CHRP professionals can apply for recertification 90 days prior to their certification expiration date. Applications must be submitted by the Application Deadline. The Application Deadline is the first day of a CHRG or CHRP certification expiration month. IIHR will accept recertification applications up until the expiration date however, any recertification application received after the Application Deadline will be assessed by a late application fee, in addition to the required recertification application fee.
How To Apply
CHRG & CHRP professionals can apply online through our website. A paper application is only available to those with a disability or hardship that precludes using the online application. Requests to use the paper application must be submitted in writing to IIHR, and include appropriate documentation of the disability or hardship.
CHRG & CHRP professionals are randomly selected for an audit of their continuing education (CE). All applications are reviewed by IIHR in the order in which they are received and are typically processed within 10 business days. Once an application is approved, the verification database will be updated and a certificate will be made available for download and print.
CHRG & CHRP professionals should carefully review the criteria for acceptable CEs. CHRG & CHRP professionals are encouraged to contact IIHR if there is a question about the acceptability of a course or program. Applications that contain errors (e.g., inappropriate CEs, lack adequate CE information, incorrect payment amount) will be returned for correction. CPhTs have 30 days, or until the expiration date (whichever is longer), to submit corrections and the reprocessing fee to IIHR.
Failure To Recertify
CHRG & CHRP professionals, who fail to recertify by midnight Eastern Standard Time on the certification expiration date are no longer considered certified by IIHR and must immediately cease using the designation “CHRG” or “CHRP” (“Certified Human Resource Generalist or “Certified Human Resource Professional”). All CHRG & CHRP professionals, whose certification has expired may apply for reinstatement within one year.
You are allowed up to one year before and after your certification expiration date(s) just to recertify by exam. If you pass the exam you will be issued a new card and certificate with the same certification number as before.
Note: Your recertification date will be your original due date, not the date you passed exam.
If you do not pass the exam for recertification, your credential will be removed, and you will have to reapply and take the exam during a future exam window to become certified again. If you don’t pass the recertification by exam, you will be decertified and will need to certify by exam as a new applicant. If you choose to certify as a new applicant and pass, you will receive an entirely new certification number, along with a new card and certificate and new three-year recertification start date
