How to Get Recertified?
Maintain your professional edge and keep your credentials active with IIHR recertification. At the International Institute of Human Resources (IIHR), certification is not just a one-time achievement—it’s an ongoing commitment to professional excellence. Our recertification process ensures that certified professionals stay updated with evolving HR practices, industry standards, and strategic business skills. An IIHR certification reflects proven expertise, credibility, and the ability to drive real business outcomes. Recertification helps you retain that value and continue progressing in your HR career.
Why Recertification Matters
Recertification is a mark of continuous learning and professional commitment.
It helps you:
- Stay relevant with current HR trends and practices
- Maintain your certification validity
- Strengthen your professional credibility
- Improve career growth and job opportunities
- Demonstrate ongoing competency in the HR field
Certification is an investment in your career—and recertification ensures that investment continues to deliver value.
Recertification Timeline
IIHR certifications are valid for a defined period (typically 3 years).
- Recertification should be initiated at least 90 days before expiry
- The process may take up to 90 days for approval
- Delays in recertification may result in expiration of certification status
It is strongly recommended to begin early to avoid any disruption in your certified status.
Recertification Options
IIHR offers two flexible pathways for recertification
Step 1: Recertification by Credits
This is the most preferred method for active professionals.
Certified professionals (such as CHRG and CHRP holders) can:
- Maintain an online profile to track earned credits
- Accumulate professional development credits over a 3-year cycle
- Submit their recertification application before expiry
Key points:
- Credits must be completed within the certification cycle
- Application must be submitted before the deadline
- Once approved, your certification is extended for the next 3 years
IIHR sends a reminder email with instructions 90 days before certification expiry.
It is recommended to maintain proper records of all learning and development activities, as they will be reviewed only after application submission.
Step 2: Recertification by Examination
Professionals can also choose to recertify by reappearing for the certification exam.
This option is applicable when:
- You prefer an exam-based renewal
- Your certification has expired beyond the credit submission period
Important conditions:
- You must recertify at the same certification level you currently hold
- Exam registration and application process must be completed
- You have up to 1 year from expiry date to recertify through examination
Important Guidelines
- You are allowed up to one year before or after expiry to recertify by exam
- If you pass the exam, you will receive:
- A renewed certificate
- The same certification number
- The recertification date will remain your original expiry date, not the exam date
If You Do Not Recertify
Failure to complete recertification within the allowed timeframe may result in:
- Expiration of your certification
- Removal of your credential from official records
- Loss of professional recognition
If recertification is not completed:
- You must apply again as a new candidate
- You will receive a new certification number
- A new certification cycle will begin
Continue Your Professional Journey
Recertification is your opportunity to stay ahead in the competitive HR landscape.
By maintaining your IIHR certification, you demonstrate:
- Commitment to excellence
- Updated industry knowledge
- Professional credibility
Stay certified. Stay relevant. Stay ahead.
